Green Design Ideas

green carbon footprint

Green Design is designing everyday products and systems to be more environmentally friendly and sustainable for the future. It can cover almost all aspects of what we use including:

  • renewable energy generation
  • transport systems
  • buildings
  • industrial equipment
  • business systems
  • communication systems
  • agriculture
  • horticulture
  • cleaning products
  • home electrical equipment
  • furniture
  • fashion and clothing
  • home and garden products

So many areas are being targeted for re-designed to reduce the use of energy, raw material, waste and pollution. This is being driven from all sides as governments hand out incentives to meet emission targets, companies respond to consumer concerns over their carbon footprint and consumers vote with their money. Added to this is money coming in from green investment funds as investors see the potential for growth and profit.

The design of green products is a new and expanding field with specific institutions and design centers focusing on this discipline. So this all leaves the budding design student with a whole area to investigate and become expert in. Business management for strategic carbon reduction is a new way to do business and these new breed of managers will identify more and more areas where green design ideas are needed to implement these strategies.
